Experimental Workflow

Using the terms defined in the MDMC Glossary, the Metadata WG formalised the basic steps of the experimental workflow to be performed during a simple study. For the sake of simplicity, only a single Sample component fabrication, a single Sample preparation and a single Measurement are represented in the image. In real correlative characterization experiments, multiple Sample components may be fabricated, multiple Sample preparations may be required, and Measurements from two or more different techniques are usually engaged; However, the steps involved in the workflow for each of them remain the same. At each stage of the workflow we expect to collect the appropriate metadata describing the context of the experiment at that particular phase.

All the details about the relations and properties of the different steps are described in the MDMC-NEP Prov Ontology.
